Meditation is sustained concentration ~ dhyana, in Sanskrit. It is an alert, quiet concentrated state of awareness wherein new wisdom and insights are awakened. Meditation is not about controlling the mind, it is about not letting the mind control you. As these eastern teachings came to the West, people discovered a new and powerful approach to finding the inner peace they were seeking and whole new worlds opened up to them.
Devotional Chanting is the open-hearted repetition of God's name ~ bhakti and mantra yoga. Bhakti means passionate love for God. Mantras are sound vibrations that manifest the Divine presence. Different mantras express and honor different aspects and facets of God. Devotional Chanting is the cross-cultural, non-denomination practice of honoring the God of our heart. Ashram Living- In Sanskrit, an ashram is a place of striving from the word sram, to exert energy; the residence and teaching center for the Guru, Master; a place designated for spiritual practices. Traditionally it is the home of the Guru where disciples live in order to focus on their sadhana, their spiritual practice. The Shakti (spiritual energy) is magnified and intensified in an ashram and visitors receive great blessings. An Ashram is not a word or even a building ~ it is an ideal.
